KCI/MCI Airport
Dropping off, and picking up, at the KCI/MCI airport is a relatively easy process but for drivers such as myself, there is a procedure that must be followed. The simple part is the drop-off, which allows me to drive directly to the terminal and airline you are checking in at. Because of the design of the new airport terminal, very little time is allowed to offload passengers. When the airport is busy, double and triple parking, or rather stopping, is allowed but the airport police will insist we exit if the drop-off is taking too long.
If you haven't been to our airport in the past 2 years, you may not be aware that we have a new terminal. Some have arrived at the new KCI and thought they were at the wrong airport. The older, 3-terminal airport has been demolished but you'll enjoy the new terminal. It is full of many amenities to make a layover, or waiting to depart, much more enjoyable.
FYI - THE KCI AND MCI AIRPORT ARE ONE AND THE SAME - Kansas City International Airport was originally called Mid-Continent International Airport, or MCI, and the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) adopted it as the airport's designator code.
The pick-up policy is as follows. All ride shares, which includes me, pick up passengers at the lower level, 2nd lane area. When you exit the baggage claim area, you exit and cross from Lane 1 to Lane 2 between the 2 pillars marked 1H & 1J. This will put you at the beginning of the ride-share pick-up area, marked 2K down to 2N. Taxis are not allowed to stage in these areas until the passengers are ready for pickup. Since I track your flight using a phone app, I'll know when your plane has arrived at the gate.
If you have checked baggage, I'll have to wait until you have your bags and are heading to the 2K pick-up area. This is the best time to call or text me so I can head to 2K and either be there ahead of you or get there soon after you have arrived.
If you do NOT have checked baggage, I'll begin to head to 2K about 10 minutes after my phone app shows your plane has arrived at the gate. This factors in the time it takes to deplane and walk to 2K. This also puts me there roughly 5 minutes before you get to 2K so I am there waiting for you, rather than you waiting for me.
It is imperative that we have your inbound flight information to include both the airline and flight number. With this information, we can track your flight so we will know if your plane is arriving early or late. As long as you are on the flight, it will not be necessary for you to provide updates, as we will probably already have the updated information before you can share it with us.
